Software Engineering builds the brains of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our software allows the Waymo Driver to perceive the world around it, make the right decision for every situation, and deliver people safely to their destinations. We think deeply and solve complex technical challenges in areas like robotics, perception, decision-making and deep learning, while collaborating with hardware and systems engineers. The subteam for this role will be:

The Onboard developer platform team builds tools/solutions that enable faster model training, quality evaluation, simulation so that Waymo engineers can develop better autonomous driving models and systems.

You will:

Understand the problem current LPM model is trying to solve along with its details

Extend current reinforcement learning infrastructure and conduct experiments on our RL system. Tune parameters and compare with existing results

Identify promising new RL technologies and apply on Waymo problems

You have:

Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in software engineering, machine learning, or a related technical field

Fundamental understanding of machine learning and reinforcement learning

2+ years of project experience involves coding and realized achievements (you are proud of the results)

We prefer:

3+ years of experience on ML or RL with hands-on projects

2+ years of experience on optimizing system infrastructure ( simulation, ML/RL, or other backend systems)

Experience in working with autonomous driving or relevant technologies

The expected hourly rate for this full-time position is listed below. Interns are also eligible to participate in the Company’s generous benefits programs, subject to eligibility requirements.

Hourly Masters Pay

$70—$70 USD
