Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Accountant to manage day-to-day accounting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, superannuation, BAS preparation and Australian tax compliance.
The successful candidate must have at least five years of recent Australian accounting experience and strong hands-on proficiency in MYOB. This is not an entry-level position.
Key Responsibilities
Manage end-to-end accounts payable and accounts receivable
Process supplier invoices, customer payments and expense claims
Prepare payment runs and monitor outstanding accounts
Perform bank, credit card and balance sheet reconciliations
Process Australian payroll accurately and on time
Manage PAYG withholding, leave entitlements and payroll reconciliations
Process Single Touch Payroll submissions
Calculate and process superannuation contributions through SuperStream
Ensure compliance with relevant awards, payroll legislation and Fair Work requirements
Maintain the general ledger and accurate financial records
Prepare monthly profit and loss, balance sheet and cash-flow reports
Complete month-end and year-end accounting procedures
Prepare and lodge BAS and IAS
Reconcile GST, PAYG withholding and payroll accounts
Assist with company, trust, partnership and individual tax returns
Prepare working papers and supporting schedules for tax compliance
Liaise with the ATO, accountants, suppliers and customers when required
Assist with audits, budgeting and cash-flow forecasting
Identify discrepancies and improve accounting processes and controls
Maintain confidential and well-organised financial records
Essential Requirements
Minimum five years' accounting experience working with Australian businesses
Advanced, hands-on MYOB experience
Strong knowledge of Australian accounting and taxation requirements
Demonstrated experience with AP, AR, payroll, superannuation, BAS and tax
Strong understanding of GST, PAYG, STP and SuperStream
Experience preparing Australian tax returns and compliance working papers
Excellent reconciliation and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
Reliable internet connection and suitable home-office environment
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
CPA or CA qualification, or progress toward qualification, is highly regarded
Preferred Experience
Experience supporting Australian SMEs or accounting practices
Knowledge of Australian employment awards and payroll obligations
Experience communicating directly with Australian clients and the ATO
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting
