What the posting says

Role Overview

The Accounting Manager runs the day-to-day accounting operations of Respage, a ~$10M ARR bootstrapped SaaS company. This is a hands-on role with real ownership: you'll own payroll and multi-state compliance end to end, and keep billing, receivables, and payables moving on schedule and without surprises.

The ideal candidate is someone who sees a broken process and fixes it, who operates well without a lot of oversight, and who can navigate the practical realities of employing people across multiple states.

This position is remote, but you must be located in PA, NJ or DE.

What You Will Own

Payroll

Own end-to-end payroll processing, including semi-monthly/bi-weekly cycles, bonuses, commissions, and off-cycle runs

Manage payroll tax registrations, filings, and notices across multiple states

Administer benefits deductions, 401(k) contributions and reconciliations, and PTO accruals

Partner with People Ops on new hire setup, terminations, and employment classification questions

Serve as the internal expert on multi-state employment issues — state registrations, nexus, local taxes, and withholding requirements

Multi-State Compliance

Own sales tax determination, registration, filing, and remittance across applicable states

Monitor economic nexus thresholds and flag new state obligations before they become problems

Maintain state registrations, annual reports, and business licenses

Respond to state and agency notices

Billing Operations

Ensure billing accuracy against contracts, and catch revenue leakage before it becomes a write-off

Improve billing workflows, including payment link adoption and invoice automation in QBO

Receivables & Payables Operations

Keep the AR cycle running on schedule: invoicing, cash application, payment reconciliation, and routine collections follow-up

Keep the AP cycle running on schedule: vendor onboarding, approvals, payment runs, and 1099 filings

Resolve day-to-day billing and vendor discrepancies, and coordinate with client-facing teams on disputes

Surface aging issues, exceptions, and problem accounts early so they can be addressed before they age further

Process & Documentation

Build and document scalable accounting processes that hold up through growth and personnel transitions

Create redundancy in critical functions like payroll and billing so institutional knowledge isn't siloed

Identify and eliminate manual work in billing, collections, and reconciliation

What We Are Looking For

4+ years of progressive accounting experience, with meaningful ownership of payroll and billing operations

Hands-on experience running payroll for a multi-state workforce, including state registrations and tax filings

Working knowledge of sales tax compliance and economic nexus in a SaaS or services context

Experience keeping AR and AP cycles running cleanly in a high-volume environment

QuickBooks Online proficiency; comfort with automation and system integrations strongly preferred

Comfortable operating independently with high ownership and low bureaucracy

Strong process orientation you see inefficiency and fix it rather than working around it

Excellent attention to detail paired with sound judgment about what actually matters

Clear, direct communicator across finance and cross-functional teams

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA a plus but not required
