What the posting says

About the Company

We are an established construction company specializing in high-end residential landscapes, swimming pools, and outdoor living projects. Our accounting team supports a fast-moving, project-driven business where accuracy, organization, and financial discipline are critical to keeping projects on track and the company operating at its best.

Position Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented, motivated accounting professional to join our accounting and finance team. This position is intended for someone with a strong accounting foundation who is willing to initially learn our company, systems, processes, and construction accounting workflow through hands-on transactional accounting work.

The role will begin with accounting support, data entry, document processing, and transaction review — with the opportunity to grow into Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, job costing, reconciliations, financial reporting support, and broader accounting responsibilities.

We are not looking for a data-entry employee. We are looking for someone who understands accounting principles, asks good questions, identifies discrepancies, takes ownership of their work, and has the ability to grow into a larger accounting role within the company.

Initial Responsibilities

Enter and maintain accounting transactions accurately and timely

Process vendor invoices and supporting documentation

Assist with Accounts Payable transaction entry and organization

Assist with Accounts Receivable transaction entry and customer account information

Enter and review project and job-related costs

Maintain accurate vendor and customer records

Organize invoices, purchase documentation, receipts, and other accounting records

Review transactions for missing, incorrect, or inconsistent information

Assist with matching invoices, payments, purchase information, and project costs

Maintain accounting spreadsheets, schedules, and supporting documentation

Assist the accounting team with routine accounting and administrative tasks

Learn the company's accounting systems, construction workflow, chart of accounts, projects, vendors, and internal procedures

Responsibilities as the Position Develops

As knowledge and performance increase, responsibilities may expand to include:

Accounts Payable management and processing

Accounts Receivable management and processing

• Vendor statement reconciliations

Bank and credit card reconciliations

• Customer account reconciliations

Job costing and project cost review

Review and classification of expenses

Monitoring outstanding receivables and payables

Assisting with month-end accounting procedures

Preparing accounting schedules and reports

Identifying accounting discrepancies and researching their cause

Supporting cash flow and financial reporting processes

Assisting with preparation of information needed for quarterly and annual reporting

Working directly with company management and outside accounting and tax professionals

Developing improved accounting procedures, controls, and workflows

Taking increasing ownership of accounting functions as experience with the company grows

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field

Strong understanding of accounting principles

Professional accounting experience preferred

CPA or equivalent professional accounting designation preferred — not required for an exceptional candidate

Experience with Accounts Payable and/or Accounts Receivable

Experience performing account reconciliations

Strong Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to learn new accounting and business software

Ability to work independently while communicating questions and issues promptly

Reliable internet connection and professional remote-work environment

Preferred Experience

The following experience would be especially valuable:

Construction accounting or job costing/project-based accounting

QuickBooks or similar accounting software

ERP, construction management, or project management systems

• Vendor invoice processing

• Customer billing and collections

Bank and credit card reconciliations

• Month-end close support

• Financial reporting support

Experience working successfully in a remote environment

What We Are Looking For

The right person will be:

• Accurate and detail-oriented

• Organized and dependable

Comfortable working with a high volume of financial information

Accountable for completing work correctly and on time

Willing to ask questions rather than make unsupported assumptions

Able to identify when something does not look correct

Interested in understanding why transactions are handled a certain way — not simply entering information

Able to follow established procedures while also identifying opportunities to improve them

Comfortable receiving feedback and learning new responsibilities

Interested in developing professionally and taking on greater responsibility over time

Looking for a long-term opportunity rather than simply completing assigned tasks

Growth Opportunity

This position is designed to grow. The initial priority will be learning the company and becoming highly reliable with transactional accounting and accounting support. As the employee demonstrates accuracy, accounting knowledge, judgment, communication, and ownership, we expect the position to develop into increasingly responsible accounting functions.

A successful employee could eventually progress through:

Accounting Support → Accounts Payable & Receivable → Reconciliations & Job Costing → Month-End Accounting → Financial Reporting Support → Broader Accounting Responsibilities

Our objective is to develop a long-term member of our accounting team who understands both accounting principles and how our business operates.
