All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.
Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda.Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.
Overview
This is a pro-bono volunteer position.
JerseySTEM is looking for talented professionals across our departments to commit time and energy as long-term engagement for our mission to provide STEM education to underrepresented middle school girls.
The Prospective Program instructors and Engagement Office deploys programs and activities to:
Provide Mentoring (and other benefits) to the Program instructors who are volunteering with us
Strategies to engage with Prospective college students who have not yet decided to join
Responsibilities
Mentor Program Instructors, providing guidance, support, and resources.
Develop engagement strategies for prospective college students, promoting JerseySTEM.
Collaborate with universities and colleges to recruit volunteers and instructors.
Lead and manage a functional team within the Prospective Program instructors and Engagement Office.
Effectively work in a virtual organization, utilizing digital tools and platforms.
Communicate with school administrators, addressing inquiries and ensuring smooth partnerships.
Qualifications
Genuine concern about/interest in solving the STEM education gender gap
Strong leadership/team building skills
Resourceful, can-do attitude
Experience with Universities and College campuses
Outreach experience preferred
Experience leading a function (i.e. team, department manager, etc) and managing others
Comfort working in a ‘virtual organization’ with digital tools (G-Suite, Slack, Jira, salesforce)
Would be a plus if candidate has flexible schedule to allow for day time calls with the school admins during the work week
