About Ramp

Ramp is building the smart infrastructure for finance teams, embedded in the transaction flow of every dollar a business spends. We automate how over $200B in annualized spend flows in and out of 70,000+ companies: authorizing payments, flagging risk, categorizing spend, and closing books.

The problems are high-stakes, data-dense, and unforgiving.

We hire people with high agency and high urgency. We look for slope over intercept. We care less about where you trained and more about what you’ve built. At Ramp, everyone is a builder who owns problems end to end and makes consequential decisions that shape the outcome.

The median Ramp customer saves 5% and grows revenue 16% in their first year – far in excess of businesses operating without Ramp. We believe every ambitious company deserves the same.

If you want to build systems that directly shape how companies move and manage billions, Ramp is the place to do it.

About the Role

Ramp Economics Lab is the go-to source for understanding how businesses spend on and adopt AI. Built on Ramp’s $200B+ business spend dataset, our flagship Ramp AI Index tracks the AI economy through actual business spend data. Our research is regularly cited by the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, The Economist, The New York Times, CNBC, Reuters, Axios, JPMorgan analyst reports, and our favorite independent substacks. You will work with Ara Kharazian, lead economist.

We’re hiring an economics-minded data scientist to own and expand this work: own Ramp AI Index, add new metrics tracking token spend and ROI of AI, extend our research internationally, and publish rigorous but accessible analysis for policymakers, researchers, businesses, the press, and the public.

You’ll also build a new customer-facing economics function from the ground up: developing Ramp’s economic outlook, meeting with customers and prospects, presenting to CFOs and finance teams, and translating our data into practical recommendations for business planning, budgeting, and AI strategy.

This role combines economic judgment, applied data science, public writing, data visualization, and executive communication. You should be able to move from an important question to credible analysis, a clear visual or argument, and advice a business leader can act on.

What You Need

Minimum of 5 years of industry experience as a Data Scientist or Economist

Strong perspectives on the economics of AI, economic policy, new media, and writing

Strong knowledge of SQL (preferably Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery) and how to write efficient SQL queries

Familiarity with BI tools (preferably Looker, Omni, Sigma, Hex or equivalent) and experience distributing data insights via reports and dashboards

Track record of shipping high-quality research, writing, and thought leadership under short, non-academic timelines

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly improving, start-up environment that focuses on solving problems with iterative technical solutions

Active reader of the news in economics, business, and AI trends

An advanced user of AI for data science, and an eye for good charts and web design (we vibecode ramp.com/data ourselves and could use some help)

At some point in the recent past, you have been described as “a breath of fresh air.” You will meet with customers and prospects and present data. It’s very important you don’t come off as dry or overly academic

Nice-to-Haves

Experience with the modern data stack (Fivetran / Snowflake / dbt / Looker / Hightouch or equivalents)
