Requirements:
A completed university degree (Masters / University Diploma) in engineering (e.g. Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology) or another degree relevant to the role
Solid foundations in mathematics and statistics
Knowledge of multisensor navigation, visual navigation and machine learning
Knowledge of applying Vision Transformers for image perception
Good knowledge of Python and C/C++
Very good English skills
Responsibilities:
Design and develop innovative algorithms to improve multisensor navigation and meet stringent safety requirements for road, rail and air transport
Develop error models to quantify the integrity of multisensor navigation methods, such as calibration error and detection error
Create realistic simulation scenarios using 3D modelling tools, such as game engines, to generate training data and test developed methods
Develop and implement a suitable simulation and evaluation environment using programming languages such as C/C++ and Python
Analyse simulation results to assess error propagation and error probabilities
Validate developed methods using hardware data collected during measurement campaigns
Contribute to the development and analysis of reliable methods for visual navigation and sensor fusion

We are the Institute of Communications and Navigation, with sites in Oberpfaffenhofen and Neustrelitz. Our mission-oriented research focuses on selected areas of communications and navigation, embedded in our programmes on space, aviation, transport and security. Our research aims to ensure the reliability and integrity of position information, supporting safe multisensor navigation for autonomous driving and flying. The role is based in Oberpfaffenhofen, starts as soon as possible, and is available full-time or part-time for a two-year contract. Remuneration is in accordance with the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector – Federal Government (TVöD-Bund), up to pay grade 13 depending on qualifications and job assignment. We welcome experienced professionals and graduates.
