What the posting says
For over 20 years, Smartsheet has empowered teams to manage work seamlessly and scale solutions smarter. Now, in our most ambitious chapter yet, we are uniting human teams with AI agents. By orchestrating the work agents do best, automating manual tasks and uncovering insights at scale, we create the space for people to focus on what truly matters: judgment, creativity, and big thinking. That is magic at work, and it’s what we show up for every day.
Smartsheet is a tech company with a human story to tell. We're here to empower teams to manage projects, automate workflows, and rapidly build new secure solutions, using simple no-code tools. We're revolutionaries – so for us changing the way the world works is all in a day's work.
The Dashboards team builds the data visualization experiences that help Smartsheet customers turn raw information into clear, executive-ready insight. We're a vibrant team with engineers at every level — from early-career to senior — and we're responsible for the beautiful data visualizations that help our customers make confident, timely executive decisions. We're growing our investment in AI-powered features and modern data infrastructure, and we're looking for an Engineering Manager to help lead the team through this next chapter.
You will lead and grow a team of engineers spanning all experience levels, coaching them to deliver high-quality, beautiful data visualization features on time and with lasting technical health. You'll own the roadmap creation and execution for the Dashboards team, partner closely with Product and cross-functional stakeholders, and help shape how the team builds AI-enabled features on modern data platforms like Databricks.
You will report to Sr Manager, Engineering. This is a remote eligible position and you may work remotely from anywhere in the US where Smartsheet is registered.
You Will:
Lead, coach, and grow a team of engineers across all experience levels, building a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement
Own roadmap creation and prioritization for the Dashboards team in partnership with Product and Design, translating customer and business needs into a clear, sequenced plan
Drive successful, predictable delivery of projects — from scoping through launch — balancing quality, speed, and technical debt
Build and evolve team structure, process, and ways of working (e.g., planning cadence, on-call, sprint/Scrumban process) to match team growth and delivery needs
Partner with engineering and product leadership to define and execute strategy for AI-powered dashboard and analytics features, including work built on Databricks and modern data infrastructure
Interview, hire, and onboard engineers to build a high-performing, diverse team
Coach, mentor, and develop direct reports, providing career growth planning, regular feedback, and performance management
Create an inclusive team culture that recognizes individual strengths and supports engagement and development for engineers at every level
Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to ensure Dashboards work is well-integrated with the broader platform
Communicate roadmap, delivery status, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to engineering and business leadership
Other duties as assigned
You Have:
2-3+ years of experience managing medium to large engineering teams
A proven track record of successful project delivery, roadmap creation, and team/process building
Experience building and shipping AI-powered product features
Experience with Databricks or similar modern data platforms
Demonstrated ability to succeed in a fast-paced, dynamic, growth-oriented environment, with the ability to adapt and shift priorities to meet evolving needs
Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical work into business impact for stakeholders at all levels
Experience coaching and developing engineers across a range of experience levels, from early-career to senior/principal
