What the posting says

Before the detail, here's the challenge you'd help us solve.

We build the embodied intelligence that moves real vehicles safely, and the ecosystem a billion machines will run on in the future. Very few people in AI can say this. Every role here, whatever the team, plugs into that.

Here’s what this particular role covers.

🛠️ About our Fleet Operations Engineering Teams

Our Fleet Operations Engineering team ensures the seamless operation, reliability, and safety of our autonomous vehicle fleet. As a vital part of the business, the team is responsible for rapid fault diagnosis, vehicle support, and process optimisation in high-impact environments. Field Engineers work closely with global teams, driving efficiency through hands-on technical problem-solving and collaboration.

🧠 Your day-to-day

Diagnose and resolve vehicle software and hardware faults onsite to maintain fleet uptime

Perform rapid, structured fault triage, ensuring a 5-minute response time

Follow standardised diagnosis and repair protocols, maintaining efficiency and compliance

Collaborate with global field engineering colleagues to coordinate technical support and escalate issues

Communicate clearly with the Field Engineering Lead regarding repair progress and shift handovers

Participate in on-call rotations and provide technical coverage across multiple regions

Maintain strict adherence to safety and compliance standards for all repairs

Support ongoing improvements by identifying issues and providing actionable feedback

🧩 What you’ll be working on

Performing onsite diagnostics and repairs to keep the autonomous fleet operational

Delivering rapid technical support and fault resolution under defined SLAs

Collaborating with engineers and cross-functional teams to troubleshoot challenging issues

Ensuring proper documentation and communication for smooth transitions between shifts and locations

Enhancing operational processes and contributing feedback for continuous improvement

Adhering to and promoting strict safety protocols and compliance standards

Using platforms like Datadog, Mender, and JIRA for monitoring, diagnostics, and reporting

Participating in a shift rota and on-call schedule, covering weekends and multiple time zones

🙌 You should apply if

You hold a full German driving license

You have strong experience in vehicle diagnostics, fault triage, and repair—preferably in automotive, fleet operations, or ADAS technology

You excel at troubleshooting and resolving technical issues quickly (meeting strict SLAs)

You communicate clearly and collaborate well with global and cross-functional teams

You are rigorous about safety, incident management, and compliance to operational procedures

You thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments and are flexible for on-call/weekend shifts

You are familiar with diagnostic tools, software monitoring platforms (e.g., Datadog, Mender), and ticketing systems like JIRA

You are fluent in both English and German

Desirable

Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc. or equivalent) in Automotive, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related technical field

Knowledge of ADAS testing, safe vehicle-operation procedures, and high-voltage/EV certification

High-voltage/EV experience and practical diagnostic skills with electric vehicles

Experience identifying recurring issues and improving operational processes for safety and efficiency

Additional Requirements:

Shift rota: Monday–Sunday (weekend work required); shifts 06:00–15:00 or 13:00–22:00

On-site at our office in Leonberg

Must disclose any additional employment as part of the application process

Role subject to pre/post health check and ongoing drug/alcohol testing per company policy

Employment contingent upon successful training and ongoing compliance

🌱 Not ticking every box? That’s totally okay! If you’re passionate about autonomy and keen to learn, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every requirement.

More about Wayve:

🚀 Wayve is building the leading AI platform for autonomous driving. We are pioneering an end to end AI approach that enables vehicles to learn directly from real world experience, developing the ability to adapt, generalise and improve at scale. Instead of relying on hand coded rules or pre mapped environments, our AI Driver learns to drive by understanding the world around it. The result is technology that navigates complex urban environments with intelligence, precision and natural flow, unlocking meaningful advances in both safety and efficiency. We believe autonomy represents a once in a generation transformation in how people and goods move, comparable to the shift from horses to cars, and from human driven vehicles to intelligent machines.

Our ambition is to make autonomy universal. Wayve’s mapless and hardware agnostic AI platform integrates with global OEM partners, enabling continuous software evolution and unlocking advanced levels of automation from L2 plus through to L4 as our core AI model scales. In a race increasingly defined by intelligence and real world learning, Wayve is taking a distinct approach, building a generalisable driving intelligence that can power any vehicle, anywhere. By combining embodied AI with scalable deployment, we are creating technology that can be shaped to each OEM brand and driver experience, accelerating the transition to a safer, more intelligent future of mobility.

A quick, honest note before you apply.

Wayve is not a mature, fully-structured place with the playbook already written. Much of how we work is still being written, and if you join, you’ll help write it. That suits people who want real ownership more than people who need a settled structure from day one.

If that sounds like the kind of problem you want to spend your time on, we’d really like to hear from you.

At Wayve we're committed to creating a diverse, fair and respectful culture that is inclusive of everyone based on their unique skills and perspectives, and regardless of sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, disability, age, citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, pregnancy or related condition (including breastfeeding) or any other basis as protected by applicable law.
