What the posting says

Job Title: Financial Operations Associate

Location: Remote (with occasional travel as needed)

Company Overview: At Shaper Capital, we’re on a mission to partner with incredible people to build companies that shape the world. Shaper Capital was founded by Travis May, who led the two biggest data companies created in the last 20 years (LiveRamp and Datavant). Since October 2023, Shaper has launched 8 companies and raised 100M+ from top firms like a16z, CRV, and Footwork.

By joining Shaper today, you’ll be part of a small, ambitious team driven by the belief that the world’s greatest problems have yet to be solved and the most transformative companies have yet to be built. We empower our portfolio companies to create businesses that transform industries, and we believe in hiring individuals who are smart, nice, and get things done. We invest in hiring high-potential and humble individuals who thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and can rapidly grow their responsibilities as we reimagine company creation.

Role Overview: We're looking for a Financial Operations Associate to own the core financial workflows that keep Shaper and its portfolio companies running smoothly. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives on detail, moves fast, and wants direct exposure to how early-stage company finances operate. You'll work closely with leadership, gain visibility across multiple businesses rather than just one, and help build the financial infrastructure as Shaper continues to grow.

What you’ll do:

Own the accounts payable process end to end, keeping vendor payments accurate and on time across Shaper and its portfolio companies

Handle customer invoicing and collections support, making sure nothing falls through the cracks

Prepare wire transfers and package them up clearly for leadership approval

Be the go-to person vendors reach out to with payment questions and make sure they get answered quickly

Keep financial records clean and current across systems, so sources of truth remain accurate

Notice where our processes are clunky or inefficient, and take the initiative to fix them rather than just flagging them

Support equity issuance

Manage payroll cycles

Who you are:

Strong with Excel and Google Sheets, comfortable with accounting systems or ERP tools

Meticulous, with genuine attention to detail and hyper-responsive

You pick things up quickly, execute ruthlessly, and learn even faster; you're entrepreneurial, scrappy, and comfortable in zero-to-one environments

You break down problems clearly, communicate actionable insights, and don't wait for permission

Low ego, high ownership; you dive into the details while maintaining strategic oversight

Energized by fast-paced, early-stage environments

Bonus: 2+ years in accounting, finance operations, AP/AR, or bookkeeping (or a relevant degree)

Bonus: startup experience

Bonus: HR or payroll experience

Bonus: familiarity with QuickBooks, Campfire, Ramp, or similar tools

What We Offer:

A seat at the center of Shaper's company building engine, with visibility across multiple early-stage businesses

Direct exposure to how lean startups run financially, day to day

The backing and playbook of operators who've built and exited before

A team that moves fast, treats each other well, and gets things done

How to Apply:

To apply, please submit your resume and a short note about why you’re excited about this opportunity. If you’ve built or contributed to something meaningful (a startup, a project, a product, etc.), we’d love to hear about it.
