Head of Enterprise Accounts, Australia
What the posting says
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role
Square has an established enterprise presence in Australia, supporting businesses including Thisbowl, The Pancake Parlour, and Brunetti Oro with technology that connects payments, commerce, and operations. You’ll lead our enterprise account management team, with accountability for growing and retaining our existing customer portfolio - and building on that foundation to deliver Square’s next phase of enterprise growth.
This is a player-coach role. You’ll set the commercial direction, lead and develop your account managers, and stay directly involved in strategic opportunities. You’ll bring commercial judgement and practical leadership to complex account strategies, executive relationships, and negotiations.
With significant growth potential ahead, you’ll have the opportunity to shape an important part of Square’s Australian business. The role offers high visibility among global leaders, direct engagement with global teams, and scope to influence Square’s global enterprise approach. You’ll combine meaningful commercial responsibility with the opportunity to progress your career as the business scales.
You Will
Own enterprise portfolio performance. Set and deliver the strategy for retention, account growth, and product adoption. Make clear choices about where the team invests its time and how Square creates long-term value for customers.
Lead and develop your account managers. Set clear commercial priorities and performance expectations. Provide coaching relevant to each account manager’s experience and career objectives, and create opportunities for continued development through complex accounts and strategic deals.
Stay directly involved in strategic deals. Work alongside account managers to shape deal strategy, engage executive stakeholders, and lead complex negotiations.
Lead strategic customer relationships. Engage executive decision-makers to understand business priorities, demonstrate the value Square delivers, and agree opportunities to deepen the relationship.
Lead enterprise commercial execution. Lead account and opportunity reviews that sharpen strategy, test assumptions, and improve commercial decisions. Maintain clear accountability for growth plans, opportunity qualification, and forecast accuracy.
Apply sound commercial judgement. Balance growth, retention, pricing, and account economics. Work with Finance, Legal, and other stakeholders to reach agreements that create value for customers and Square.
Navigate a distributed global organisation. Align colleagues in Australia and across global teams, including Product, Engineering, Sales, Support, Risk, Finance, and Legal. Resolve competing priorities and secure the decisions needed to deliver for enterprise customers.
Shape Square’s enterprise priorities in Australia. Bring a clear view of customer needs, competitive dynamics, and portfolio risks. Turn that insight into recommendations that inform product and commercial decisions.
You Have
12+ years of professional experience, including substantial commercial responsibility for growing and retaining complex business accounts.
3+ years of direct people leadership experience in a commercial role, with a track record of developing account managers, building a high-performing culture, and delivering team commercial outcomes.
A track record of consistently exceeding commercial objectives, through both your own contribution and the performance of your team.
Deep commercial experience, including personally shaping complex deals, negotiating agreements, evaluating trade-offs, and building business cases.
Experience with enterprise sales processes, including qualification, stakeholder mapping, procurement, negotiation, and forecasting. You know how to apply that discipline to growth within existing accounts.
Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience aligning cross-functional teams, navigating competing priorities, and influencing decisions across a distributed global organisation.
Credibility with executive decision-makers and the ability to build alignment across commercial, operational, and technical stakeholders.
The ability to understand enterprise technology requirements and work with technical specialists to connect product capabilities, integration considerations, and customer business needs.
A hands-on leadership approach. You combine clear direction with practical coaching and direct contribution to complex commercial work.
Fintech or payments experience is welcome, but not required. Enterprise commercial depth, leadership capability, and sound judgement matter more.
