What the posting says
Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.
At Waymo, we are building the world's most trusted driver. The Global Places and Services (GPS) team acts as the backbone of Waymo's physical and technical operational infrastructure, balancing technical engineering expertise with operational agility to protect and optimize our environments as autonomous vehicle technology scales.
As Waymo transitions from R&D to global commercial scale, our physical facility controls and cloud IT infrastructure must evolve to be seamlessly integrated. We are seeking an Head of Technical Services to serve as our Master Systems Integrator (MSI) and top-level technical authority. In this role, you will bridge physical building operations and digital cloud platforms, defining long-term network architectures for Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Building Operating System (BOS) service frameworks. You will lead a team of engineers and technicians, enforce control design and BOS data standards, resolve critical operational outages, and partner across IT, Hardware, and Facilities to build scalable, enterprise-grade smart building solutions for all critical assets including our charger infrastructure.
This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports to Director of eMobility hiring manager.
You will:
BAS & BOS Technical Architecture: Define the technical direction and global network architecture for Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Building Operating System (BOS) platforms,
prioritizing system sustainability, enterprise scalability, and long-term risk mitigation
Master Systems & BOS Integration: Act as the Master Systems Integrator (MSI), directing the integration of on-premise OT networks, IP controllers, BACnet protocols, and cloud BOS service architectures across disparate Charging and Building systems
BAS/BOS Crisis Escalation & RCA: Serve as the primary 3rd-level technical contact during critical BAS network disruptions and BOS integration outages, leading root cause analysis (RCA) and deploying permanent architectural fixes under pressure
Control Design & BOS Programming Standards: Oversee the creation of control submittals, network topologies, panel layouts, and controller programming (graphical block and line code) while enforcing BOS data schemas, OCPP guidelines, and code reviews
Automation Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and motivate a team of automation technicians and integration engineers, building technical depth in BAS network diagnostics, protocol configuration, and hands-on operational excellence
Cross-Functional Stakeholder Alignment: Bridge physical facilities and software teams by partnering with IT, Hardware Engineering, Fleet Operations, and automation vendors to translate operational needs into integrated BOS requirements
You have:
BAS & OT/IT Technical Depth: 5–7+ years of experience in building automation systems, OT/IT network integration, or master systems engineering, with deep expertise in BAS protocols (BACnet IP/MSTP, Modbus) and edge-to-cloud network architectures
Software & Infrastructure Core Skills: Proficiency with Linux environments, programming/scripting (Python, Java, graphical block code), database management, and cloud technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure) used for facility data pipelines and BOS platform services
Mechinical Controls & Schematics Aptitude: Strong foundational understanding of HVAC mechanics and electrical control circuits, with the hands-on ability to translate complex wiring diagrams, control submittals, and spatial schematics into standardized BOS data models
Service Methodologies & Crisis Support: Application of ITIL, Agile/Scrum, or DevOps frameworks to smart building operations, combined with experience leading 3rd-level incident resolution, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and network fault isolation
Strategic Leadership: Demonstrated ability to navigate technical ambiguity, drive cross-functional alignment across IT and facilities teams, manage technical debt across legacy BAS infrastructure, and model core company behaviors
We prefer:
Master Systems Integrator (MSI) & BOS Mastery: Prior experience serving as an MSI on enterprise-scale smart building projects, integrating edge OT networks and IP controllers into cloud Building Operating Systems (BOS) or Digital Twin platforms
Advanced Protocol & Security Standards: Deep technical expertise in BACnet object mapping (AI/AV/AO/BI/BO), custom OT gateway configurations, and network standards for connected facility and charging infrastructure
Enterprise Digital Transformation: Proven track record of transitioning organizations from disparate, manual building management tools to centralized enterprise BOS platforms
High-Tech & Critical Facility Experience: Experience managing charging infrastructure within autonomous vehicles, robotics, tech hardware, aerospace, or mission-critical enterprise environments
Travel Requirements:
Up to 25% travel time
