About the Role
As an HPC Security Researcher, you bring deep expertise in high-performance computing, software development in C/C++ or Rust/Python, backed by a minimum MSc in HPC, Scientific Computing, or related discipline. You have hands-on experience with SLURM, AI workloads, advanced algorithms, parallel computer architectures, Linux, network protocols in high performance computing. You excel at modeling HPC threats— resource exhaustion, lateral movement across compute nodes, Slurm exploits—and translating them into practical security defenses.
You will be one of Haste's first HPC security researchers pioneering defenses for supercomputing clusters alongside AI and quantum workloads.
Key Responsibilities
Investigating Threat Actors & Attack Vectors: Identifying, analyzing, and documenting threats targeting HPC systems and ecosystem trends and developments.
Developing Defenses and Mitigations: Designing detection logic and mitigation methods for HPC-specific threats that do not significantly degrade performance.
Security Modeling: Developing threat models for HPC infrastructures with Cyber threat intelligence input in adjacent technologies to predict potential attack paths.
Developing HPC-Specific Detection Rules: Authoring custom security rules for monitoring tools (e.g., SLURM, PBS) to detect abnormal user behavior, such as suspicious logins, resource usage, and data transfers.
Engineering Collaboration - Translating HPC security research into production-grade detection requirements for Haste's threat engine and HPC integration.
Documentation & Reporting- Creating technical reports, whitepapers, and proof-of-concept exploits to document vulnerabilities and share findings within the organization, to the public or conferences.
Securing Heterogeneous Environments: Designing security for complex, hybrid platforms integrating cloud, AI/ML workflows, and on-premise, bare-metal hardware.
Requirements
Minimum MSc in Physics focused on quantum physics.
Current residence in Germany or Austria.
Full-time onsite availability from December 1, 2026; office to be confirmed.
