What the posting says

We are seeking a highly experienced Hydraulic Physical Modelling Expert to lead the planning, design, execution, and interpretation of complex hydraulic and sediment transport physical modelling studies. The successful candidate will possess strong expertise in hydraulic engineering, physical modelling, mobile bed models, and interdisciplinary collaboration with hydrologists and hydraulic specialists.

You will support on a freelance basis over three months. This position will work with our Philippines Engineering Centre, however can be supported remotely by the freelancer from international locations, with expected two short-term site visits to project location in Sri-Lanka.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development, design, calibration, and operation of hydraulic physical models for river, coastal, estuarine, and hydraulic structure projects.

Design and oversee fixed-bed and mobile bed models to assess hydraulic performance, sediment transport, scour, erosion, deposition, and morphological evolution.

Collaborate with geomorphologists and hydrogeomorphologists to assess river processes and channel stability.

Work closely with hydrologists to develop representative flow scenarios, flood hydrographs, and hydraulic boundary conditions.

Integrate physical modelling findings with numerical modelling outputs for design verification and risk assessment.

Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers, technicians, and junior specialists.

Lead client presentations, technical workshops, and stakeholder consultations.

Advance innovative applications of physical modelling for hydraulic and morphodynamic challenges.

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Hydraulic, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering.

Master's degree or PhD preferred in Hydraulic Engineering, Geomorphology, Hydrogeomorphology, Sediment Transport, or related field.

10+ years of experience in hydraulic physical modelling projects.

Demonstrated expertise in mobile bed models and hydraulic laboratory testing.

Strong understanding of hydrology, sediment transport, geomorphology, hydrogeomorphology, and river engineering.
