What the posting says

Gravis Robotics is a high-growth Series A start-up backed by SoftBank, bringing Physical AI to the construction industry, turning heavy construction machines into autonomous robots.

Gravis began as an ETH Zurich spin-out, and our unique combination of learning-based automation and augmented remote control lets one operator safely conduct a fleet of earthmoving machines in a gamified environment.

Backed by deep robotics research and now deployed across multiple countries with leading construction and equipment partners, our team is rapidly growing to bring this technology to a trillion-dollar industry.

The Gravis RACK is a machine-agnostic retrofit kit that adds autonomy to excavators and wheel loaders from 10 to 100+ tonnes: LiDAR and camera sensing, GNSS RTK, networking hardware and rugged edge compute that works offline. Paired with the Slate tablet and our Copilot software, it lets an operator run a machine manually, with AI assistance, or fully autonomously. Increasingly, we also build custom hardware to adapt our machines for highly specialized, robust applications beyond traditional excavation.

About the role

We are looking for a manufacturing quality engineer to own the quality and reliability of the Gravis hardware package that turns regular excavators into awesome, autonomous machines. You will work with our engineering and production team in Zurich defining and implementing quality measures like incoming inspections, supply chain validations, failure analysis and product return teardowns to enable our custom AI hardware a safe and reliable operation of heavy machines. You are capable of working both independently and with others, and are intrinsically driven to solve challenging applied problems with a rigorous attention to detail and an exploratory imagination.

You are our first quality hire. There is no dedicated quality team, no lab, and no playbook; you will design the test / fixture / process and then go build it.

What you will do

Define what hardware quality means for Gravis from ground up

Design and implement testing systems, jigs and fixtures from incoming inspection to product shipping

Document failures, root causes and mitigations, build a failure database and review regularly with design and production

Teardown and analysis of field returns, drive corrective actions

Own supplier quality: first article inspection, qualification, audits, and 8D follow-through

Tighten drawings and specifications; critical characteristics, unambiguous acceptance criteria

Help building our long-term reliability and environmental test strategy as we scale

What we're looking for

A university degree in mechanical, electrical, quality Engineering or equivalent practical experience

3+ years experience in quality / manufacturing engineering in low volume manufacturing

Hands on failure analysis and teardowns

CAD knowledge for designing fixtures

Experience in hand metrology

Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems

Good command of English, both written and spoken

Beneficial skills

Experience in GD&T

Experience in SQL / python

Exposure to environmental / accelerated lifetime testing (e.g. vibration, shock, ingress, UV)

Fluency in Mandarin

Off-highway, agricultural, mining or other harsh-environment equipment

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team and to be part of a company that is reshaping heavy construction.

Gravis is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to building an inclusive and diverse team, and do not discriminate based on race, colour, ancestry, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, gender identity, gender expression, disability, veteran status, or other legally protected characteristics.
