What the posting says

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

MILLWRIGHT (GAS/STEAM TURBINES)

Starbase is standing up on-site power generation for the Starbase AI supercomputer. This millwright role installs that plant: trailer- and skid-mounted aeroderivative gas turbines, generators, and the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) stacks beside them. You set the machines, laser-align the couplings, grout them, preserve them until they run, and install the emissions equipment as foundations come out of the ground.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Receive, inspect, and set trailer-mounted and skid-mounted gas turbines and generators

Perform precision alignment of turbine-to-generator couplings, including laser and dial-indicator methods, soft-foot correction, and thermal growth compensation

Land, level, grout, and anchor rotating equipment using hydraulic jacks, non-shrink grout, and epoxy anchors

Torque and control coupling and foundation hardware through each install

Preserve idle turbomachinery until startup, including rotor barring, space heaters, and desiccant

Assist OEM dry-crank and motoring of turbine packages

Install SCR stacks and associated mechanical equipment; work around aqueous ammonia emissions systems

Rig and signal crane moves of heavy rotating equipment; follow lockout/tagout and machinery-installation standards (API RP 686)

Execute OEM installation work packages in the field with engineers, technicians, and OEM technical advisors

Coordinate with other crafts to keep picks, grout pours, and alignment windows on schedule

Maintain installed packages and run standard operating procedures after set

Maintain millwright tools, hardware, and critical spares

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalency certificate

5+ years of hands-on millwright, rotating-equipment, or industrial machinery installation experience

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Hands-on experience setting and aligning large rotating machinery (gas turbines, generators, compressors, pumps, or similar)

Journey-level millwright card, NCCER millwright, or equivalent rotating-equipment qualification

Demonstrated laser-alignment of couplings and dial-indicator alignment, including soft-foot correction and thermal growth / hot-running offset

Experience setting trailer-mounted or skid-mounted aeroderivative gas turbines and generators

Working knowledge of API RP 686 (machinery installation)

Experience with hydraulic jacks, sole plates, non-shrink grout, and epoxy anchors

Qualified rigger and/or crane signalperson (NCCCO, NCCER, or equivalent)

Ability to read OEM installation manuals, coupling drawings, and foundation details and execute them in the field

Experience preserving idle turbomachinery (rotor barring, space heaters, desiccant, dry-crank / motoring assist)

Experience working around aqueous ammonia, SCR, or other power-plant emissions equipment

Comfortable taking direction from an OEM technical advisor and translating it to a crew

Able to work well in an integrated team with technicians, engineers, OEM advisors, and construction crafts

Able to prioritize and execute in a high-pressure, fast-paced construction environment

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required

Willingness to travel to job sites during construction, commissioning, and critical operational events

Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. unassisted

Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights, kneel, crouch, and work in tight quarters around trailers, skids, and stack steel

Must be able to work outdoors in South Texas heat, wind, and rain, and around 19% aqueous ammonia SCR equipment

Must be willing to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection when specified

Valid driver’s license required

ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
