ABOUT SLATE
At Slate, we’re building safe, reliable vehicles that people can afford, personalize and love—and doing it here in the USA as part of our commitment to reindustrialization. The spirit of DIY and customization runs throughout every element of a Slate, because people should have control over how their trucks look, feel, and represent them.
| WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Slate is looking for a Principal Software Development Engineer - Frontend to help lead our software development in the electric vehicle space. You will focus on defining and building our digital customer experience. You must be able to thrive and succeed in a fast-paced startup environment where your contributions have a direct impact on the company’s direction and success and should not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities.
| WHAT YOU GET TO DO
You lead the definition, design, architecture, implementation, and delivery of Slate's client-side software across web and mobile platforms.
You code and test UI components and client applications, leading code and design reviews with a focus on user experience quality.
You own end-to-end frontend quality, including UI testing, accessibility, cross-platform functional tests, and client-service integration.
You relentlessly simplify complex user interactions, demonstrating significant innovation, creativity, and judgment when solving challenging UX and performance problems.
You partner closely with UX and product teams as a primary technical voice, building and inventing new experiences that put customers first.
You are considered an authority on frontend architecture and web/mobile platform decisions, frequently consulted on performance, scalability, and technology trade-offs.
You drive awareness of how frontend technical decisions impact product quality, customer experience, and business outcomes, balancing technical leadership with strong product judgment.
You assist in the career development of others, actively mentoring engineers on frontend best practices, platform patterns, and helping managers guide the growth of their teams.
|WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
12+ years of professional software development experience with a strong emphasis on client-side and UI engineering.
10+ years of programming experience in modern languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Swift, or Kotlin.
10+ years of experience in full-stack mobile and web development — Android, iOS, or modern web browsers — with deep expertise in building performant, scalable frontend applications.
10+ years of experience contributing to frontend architecture and design systems, including component architecture, state management, and cross-platform reliability.
10+ years of experience with the full software development life cycle, including UI coding standards, component libraries, source control, build pipelines, testing frameworks, and shipping to production.
7+ years of experience leading frontend design and architecture across new and existing products, with a track record of making systems more maintainable, accessible, and performant at scale.
Work Authorization Requirement
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship at this time.
