Make Wayve the experience that defines your career!
The role
We’re looking for a Product Designer to shape digital in-vehicle experiences for our development and demonstration fleet. Your work will span tools used by trained vehicle operators during testing and validation, alongside guest-facing interfaces that help a wide range of people understand and experience Wayve’s enriched ADAS and automated-driving technology.
You’ll help us explore new ways for people to understand and interact with autonomous driving technology. You’ll own defined product features from discovery through to delivery, combining user insight, interaction design and strong visual design. You’ll think beyond the screen, considering how visual interfaces, sound, haptics and lighting can work together to make complex technology clear, intuitive and accessible.
You’ll work within a supportive, experienced design environment, partnering closely with Product, Engineering and Operations.
Key responsibilities
Conduct research, observation and usability testing with operators, guests and customers
Turn user needs, complex technology and operational requirements into clear journeys, workflows and interactions
Apply inclusive and accessible design principles, considering a broad range of needs, abilities and contexts of use
Design interactions across visual interfaces, sound, haptics and lighting, considering how they work together as one experience
Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes and polished production-ready designs
Define interaction states, edge cases and feedback in sufficient detail for implementation
Collaborate with stakeholders to balance user needs, product goals and technical constraints
Review implementation, resolve design issues and help maintain a high quality bar in the finished experience
Contribute reusable interaction and visual patterns across Wayve’s vehicle-related products
About you
For this role, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.
Essential
A portfolio demonstrating strong interaction and visual/UI craft, including the ability to make complex information and interactions clear without losing important detail
An understanding of inclusive and accessible design, and how different needs and contexts can shape an experience
Strong wireframing and prototyping skills, with the ability to choose the right level of fidelity for the problem
Curiosity and sound judgement: you’re comfortable questioning assumptions, exploring different approaches and working through ambiguity and constraints
Clear communication and the ability to explain the thinking behind your design decisions
Experience owning product problems through discovery, design, validation and delivery
Experience planning and conducting user research or usability testing and applying what you learn
Experience collaborating closely with product managers and engineers throughout product development
Desirable
Experience designing interfaces that connect people with complex, real-time or physical systems. This could come from automotive or mobility, but equally from areas such as gaming, robotics, industrial products, kiosks or other interactive machines
Experience working with constrained environments, where factors such as hardware, safety, attention or context place limits on interaction design
Experience designing operational tools, real-time interfaces or products used by people with widely differing levels of technical knowledge
Experience using generative AI and coding tools to explore ideas, build prototypes or contribute directly to implementation
Automotive experience, such as designing in-vehicle interfaces, working with Android Auto or understanding market-specific guidance such as JAMA, is useful but not required
As part of the interview process, we’ll ask you to provide examples of your work that demonstrate strong interaction and visual design across digital products or interactive experiences.
