Product Sourcing Engineer (Batteries/Energy/Etc.)

Maritime & Maneuver Dominance: Heavy Metal - Engineering & Operations

ABOUT THE JOB

The Product Sourcing Engineer (Batteries/Energy/Etc.) drives the supply network development and cost management of Anduril's energy storage and power systems across their lifecycles. This role focuses specifically on battery systems, energy storage solutions, power conversion equipment, and related energy infrastructure critical to our Maritime & Maneuver Dominance platforms. You'll collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality, and manufacturing, to ensure our autonomous systems have reliable, high-performance energy solutions.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Conduct supplier selection for battery packs, cells, energy storage systems, and power management components, leveraging our approved supplier list and identifying new strategic partners in the energy sector

Partner with strategic battery and energy suppliers to accelerate product development via activities such as:

Concept scoping to quickly solidify energy requirements (capacity, discharge rates, thermal management, safety)

Feature trade-off/trade tables for battery chemistries, form factors, and energy density vs. cost

Should cost/clean sheet models for battery assemblies and BMS systems

Joint design development of custom battery packs and energy systems via clear statements of work

Testing and simulation of thermal, electrical, and safety performance

Drive the development and consolidation of a manufacturing BOM for energy systems, working with Quality & Manufacturing to ramp production internally and with our suppliers with high flexibility

Manage battery and energy-related CAPEX throughout NPI, including test equipment, safety infrastructure, and production tooling

Conduct value-stream mapping to optimize supply network lead time and flexibility for critical energy components

Complete BOM risk assessment for batteries and energy systems, including alternate component sourcing, second-sourcing strategies, and supply chain resilience planning

Ensure completion of all component qualifications ahead of production, including:

Battery cell validation and testing (cycle life, abuse testing, environmental)

Compliance with military specifications and safety standards (MIL-STD, UN 38.3, etc.)

Supplier quality audits and capability assessments

Lead battery and energy system cost engineering activities to converge bottoms-up cost curves to product cost targets, maximizing total cost of ownership (TCO) across the product lifecycle

Manage ad-hoc cost issues including raw material volatility (lithium, cobalt, nickel), tariffs/import-export costs, and cost inflation

Reduce complexity through commonality optimization, component/supplier rationalization, and standardization of battery platforms across product lines

Stay current on emerging battery technologies, energy storage innovations, and regulatory requirements affecting the energy supply chain

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or other technical field

3+ years of experience in one or more of the following:

Sourcing engineering for batteries, energy storage, or power systems

Battery pack design and development

Supplier engagement and development in the energy sector

Design of energy systems and/or electrochemical devices

Understanding of battery technologies, including lithium-ion chemistries, battery management systems (BMS), and energy storage architectures

Familiarity with battery safety standards, testing protocols, and qualification requirements

Experience with value/procurement engineering or TCO-related work at the component & product level

Ability to travel 10% - 40% of the time to supplier sites, test facilities, and other Anduril locations

Ability to relocate, if not already local to be onsite in Costa Mesa, CA

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree or advanced technical degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field

5+ years of experience in battery/energy sourcing, supplier development, or electrochemical system design

Deeper experience within:

Design & development of battery packs, BMS, or energy storage systems

Advanced sourcing activities for batteries or energy components, including stints as commodity/sourcing managers

Battery supplier development (technology qualification, process optimization, supply chain management)

Early supplier engagement for next-generation battery technologies and energy systems

Lithium-ion cell procurement and cell-to-pack integration

Experience with military or aerospace battery applications and related qualification requirements

Familiarity with developing high-reliability energy systems in a high-mix, low-volume environment

Knowledge of battery supply chain dynamics, including raw material sourcing and geopolitical considerations

Understanding of alternative energy technologies (fuel cells, supercapacitors, solid-state batteries, etc.)

Experience with battery test equipment, facilities, and safety infrastructure

Exposure to working in a fast-paced, start-up environment

Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret security clearance
