About the Team

The Credit Risk Squad is part of the 2nd line of Defense, responsible for managing and overseeing the credit risk function of our organization by providing independent oversight and challenge to the first line of defense.

As a second line Credit Risk team, we are responsible for creating Expected Credit Loss (ECL) models used to calculate loss allowances, making sure the company's credit risk is managed correctly and efficiently — participating end-to-end in the model development process, including implementation, monitoring, ensuring operational quality of the data, and supporting Finance accounting teams.

Our team's models feed the financial statements of the Holding under IFRS 9, and, as Nubank expands into the United States, under US GAAP as well

About the Role

As a Credit Risk Expert focused on the US, you'll be the senior technical authority on US GAAP credit-loss and CECL (Current Expected Credit Losses) methodology within our Credit Risk team. Nubank's US expansion requires expected-credit-loss models that meet US regulatory and accounting standards.

You'll govern local US CECL models: assessing and identifying gaps, reviewing risks, and driving an implementation plan — hands-on where needed, working through the team rather than alone. It is also expected that you become the team's standing focal point for US-specific credit regulation.

This is a specialist, individual-contributor role, — but you'll be expected to share your knowledge to the rest of the team, along with senior stakeholders in Finance, Risk, and Product.

You’ll be Responsible for

Own the US GAAP / CECL methodology — be the team's definitive expert on how expected credit loss should be calculated and governed under US standards.

Assess and close regulatory gaps — evaluate our current state against what's required for the local US regulation; identify what's missing in model methodology, documentation, and governance, and drive the plan to close it.

Build models for new US portfolios — as new US products launch, build their expected-credit-loss models from the ground up, hands-on, including Development, Implementation and Monitoring process.

Close the explanatory gap between IFRS 9 and US GAAP models — advise on main drivers for differences between IFRS 9 and US GAAP results.

Transfer knowledge across the team — ensure US GAAP/CECL expertise doesn't stay siloed with you; coach and upskill teammates who will implement and maintain these models day to day.

Be the face of credit risk with US stakeholders — represent the team with local US leadership (CFO, CRO) and act as a primary point of contact with US regulators on credit and expected-loss matters.

What We're Looking For Someone Who Has

Required

Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Statistics, Math, or a related quantitative field.

Deep, hands-on experience building expected-credit-loss / provisioning models under US GAAP, specifically CECL (ASC 326).

Strong working knowledge of US credit risk regulatory expectations — what regulators, internal model risk teams, and external auditors scrutinize in ECL models.

Proven experience actually building models (not only reviewing or auditing them).

Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to transfer technical knowledge to non-specialists and teammates, rather than keeping it centralized.

Comfortable operating with high visibility across senior internal stakeholders (global credit leadership, first-line credit policy teams) and external stakeholders (local US leadership, regulators).

Nice to Have

Exposure to IFRS 9 or other international provisioning standards, and experience with model transitions between accounting frameworks.

Coding/technical skills sufficient to engage with model implementation (Python/SQL).

Experience mentoring or growing into people leadership.
