Role description and responsibilities

Design, operate and troubleshoot end-to-end data and ML pipelines in production environments
Integrate and run ML/AI models, ensuring correct handling of inputs, outputs and data changes
Build and maintain batch and streaming pipelines using Spark / PySpark
Monitor systems using logs, metrics and alerts, ensuring operational stability
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for data and ML workloads on Azure
Collaborate with backend, platform and business teams in distributed environments
Develop production-grade solutions using Python, SQL, JSON/YAML, Git
Implement and debug pipelines on Azure (Data Lake, Databricks)
Use ML experimentation tools (MLflow, Weights & Biases, Databricks ML) and notebooks (e.g. Synapse)
Ensure idempotent processing, performance profiling and safe re-runs
Apply data validation, sanity checks and numerical precision awareness
Ensure observability through log and metric interpretation
Apply basic access control (RBAC) and secure data handling practices
Work within regulated environments (Financial Services)
Participate in Agile delivery, documentation practices and incident awareness
Maintain model lifecycle awareness as well as awareness of assumptions and limitations
Ensure awareness of compliance constraints
Requirements
University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, or a comparable technical field
7 to 10 years of relevant work experience
Experience in data/AI production environments
Experience in incident/support environments
Experience with Python (production usage), SQL and SQL-based database systems
Knowledge of PySpark / Spark, Azure (Synapse, Data Lake, Databricks) as well as CI/CD and DevOps tools (Azure DevOps, pipelines)
Understanding of monitoring tools (logs, alerts)
Professional English at C1 level (spoken and written)
Effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Strong collaboration skills within distributed and cross-functional teams
Proactive mindset with a high sense of ownership and accountability
Structured approach to incident and problem management
Ability to prioritize workload efficiently in a dynamic environment
Must hold a valid work permit or EU/Schengen Space nationality to legally work in Portugal
Nice to have
French or Dutch language skills
