π About WRITER
WRITER is where the world's leading enterprises orchestrate AI-powered work. Our vision is to expand human capacity through superintelligence. And we're proving it's possible β through powerful, trustworthy AI that unites IT and business teams together to unlock enterprise-wide transformation. With WRITER's end-to-end platform, hundreds of companies like Mars, Marriott, Uber, and Vanguard are building and deploying AI agents that are grounded in their company's data and fueled by WRITER's enterprise-grade LLMs. Valued at $1.9B and backed by industry-leading investors including Premji Invest, Radical Ventures, and ICONIQ Growth, WRITER is rapidly cementing its position as the leader in enterprise generative AI.
Founded in 2020 with office hubs in San Francisco, New York City, Seattle, Austin, Chicago, and London, our team thinks big and moves fast, and we're looking for smart, hardworking builders and scalers to join us on our journey to create a better future of work with AI.
π About the role
In an AI-native environment, the product shifts fast, new workflows emerge weekly, and customers and internal teams surface needs in real time. Someone has to meet those needs at the speed they arise. That's this role.
As a lead learning experience designer, you'll own a fast-paced, high-volume learning design track focused on short, targeted, just-in-time courses β typically 15β45 minutes each, built in sprints of three weeks or less, shipping roughly 15+ courses per year. You'll build focused one-off courses that plug specific gaps: a new workflow, a role-specific skill, a tool that just shipped, an AI topic that can't wait for the next curriculum cycle.
These courses are standalone, purpose-built, and often shorter-lived β responding to the moment. You'll work both proactively (scanning for emerging needs) and reactively (fielding requests from across the company and from customers). The pace is fast, the iteration cycles are tight, and the environment is dynamic. If you're energized by change, comfortable shipping at speed, and able to balance strategic proactivity with rapid reactive response, this is your role.
In addition, you'll deliver live and virtual trainings on these topics as needed β bringing the same speed and adaptability from your on-demand work into the live environment, whether in person or on a webinar platform.
This role complements our end-to-end learning experience designers, who own robust, polished curricula built over longer timelines. You're not integrated within those larger curriculum builds; you're filling the space they can't reach. Your courses are shorter, faster, and more targeted, designed to serve a specific need and plug a gap where the larger curriculum moves too slowly. Think of it as the agile track of the LXD team: smaller scope, faster cadence, and a bias toward shipping. You won't be building three- to four-hour flagship programs. You'll be building tight, high-impact courses that get someone up to speed on a specific thing, quickly, and then moving on to the next one.
*We are open to hiring for this role at multiple levels, with compensation ranges scaled to match your experience, expertise, and the scope of the role.
π¦Έπ»ββοΈ What you'll do
Design and build focused, standalone courses β typically 15β45 minutes β in sprints of three weeks or less, shipping roughly 15 courses per year across topics that are specific and targeted: particular workflows, role-based skills, individual tools, and timely AI topics that demand a fast response
Own the full design lifecycle for each course at speed β needs analysis, design, build, QA, and publish β without the extended timelines of end-to-end curriculum work, making smart scope decisions about what's essential, what can be cut, and how to deliver maximum learning value in a compact format
Deliver live and virtual training on the topics you build, with excellence β adapting on the fly to audience questions, skill levels, and industry-specific workflows, particularly across WRITER's verticals
Repurpose content across delivery modes (on-demand to live, live to on-demand, micro to full) maximizing reach without rebuilding from scratch
Scan proactively for emerging learning needs by monitoring product changes, customer signals, and internal feedback, and get ahead of them before they're formally requested, while also fielding and triaging incoming requests from across the company and from customers, responding quickly with targeted courses that address real, surfaced needs
Balance proactive and reactive work, making judgment calls about what's worth building, what can wait, and what should be deferred or declined, and ship at a cadence that keeps pace with the product and the business, prioritizing speed and relevance over exhaustive perfection
Partner with product, product marketing, customer-facing teams, and SMEs to gather what you need quickly and keep courses moving, coordinate with end-to-end learning experience designers to avoid duplication and ensure your rapid-response courses complement rather than compete with larger curriculum, flag topics that outgrow the rapid-response format, and share insights from the fast track to inform the team's longer-term roadmap
βοΈ What you need
5+ years of experience in instructional design, learning experience design, or a related field, with demonstrated experience designing and shipping courses at a fast pace
Proven ability to design effective learning in compact formats β you know how to scope tight, cut ruthlessly, and deliver high-impact learning in 15β45 minutes rather than three to four hours
Comfort with rapid development cycles and short sprints; you've worked in fast-paced environments and you thrive there rather than burning out, embracing the pace of an AI-native environment where the topics you're building for may shift mid-sprint β and adapting without losing momentum
Strong prioritization and triage skills β you can juggle proactive and reactive work, make tradeoffs, and say no when something doesn't warrant a course
Excellent live facilitation skills β you're confident and effective delivering in person and virtually, able to read a room (physical or virtual), adapt on the fly, and keep learners engaged, and you're as comfortable in front of an audience as you are behind a slide deck
Excellent stakeholder management β you can gather what you need from SMEs and partners quickly, keep things moving, and communicate clearly about expectations, with proficiency in standard LXD tools including authoring tools (e.g., Parta), LMS platforms (e.g., Skilljar), slide/presentation tools, video production tools, and basic design tools
A portfolio that demonstrates your craft β submit 3β5 excerpts (not full courses) showing your best work, each long enough to show how you teach a complete idea or topic. Include at least 2 course excerpts you scripted, recorded, and edited yourself (video, graphics, interactive elements, slide design, in-product walkthroughs, or any combination), at least 1 sample teaching a topic in AI, and at least 1 live facilitation example. For each excerpt, include a brief note (2β3 sentences) on what it is, who it's for, what problem it solved, and your specific role. Submit your best work, not your full body of work β everything should represent the quality bar you'd hold yourself to as the sole owner of your output. You're energized by change and dynamic environments, you see rapid-response learning design as a craft in its own right, and you're comfortable with impermanence β building something knowing it may have a shorter shelf life. Above all, you embody what it means to Connect, Challenge, and Own at WRITER
