ABOUT THE TEAM
The Growth Design Team focuses on driving meaningful business impact through thoughtful strategy, experimentation, and exceptional craft. We design the end-to-end journeys that help customers discover, understand, and engage with the value of Instacart.
Our work sits at the intersection of product thinking, brand expression, behavioral insight, and interaction design. We’re constantly exploring new ways to make growth experiences feel more useful, intuitive, expressive, and distinctly Instacart.
We pride ourselves on a culture of experimentation, accountability, and craft, continuously evolving how we design for conversion, engagement, retention, and long-term customer value.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer II to join the Lifecycle & Growth team and help shape some of Instacart’s most important customer experiences.
This role is ideal for a highly conceptual, craft-driven designer who is energized by ambiguous problems, 0→1 exploration, and bringing new ideas to life through exceptional visual, interaction, and motion design.
You’ll work across high-impact Growth initiatives spanning partnerships, incentives, and lifecycle experiences. The work may include exploring new partner-led entry points, rethinking how incentives are surfaced and understood, or creating new lifecycle experiences that improve conversion, reactivation, and retention.
You’ll work at the intersection of product, brand, content, interaction design, and growth strategy, deeply understanding both the customer experience and the business mechanics behind it to create new ways for people to discover, engage with, and return to Instacart.
Many of these opportunities won’t start with a defined solution. You’ll be expected to explore broadly, challenge existing patterns, and translate customer needs, business goals, and emerging capabilities into compelling product experiences.
You’ll move fluidly between big-picture concepts and the smallest interaction details, developing new product ideas, prototyping behaviors, refining motion and micro-interactions, and carrying strong concepts through to polished execution.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Lead high-impact Growth initiatives across partnerships, incentives, and lifecycle experiences, taking work from ambiguous problem framing through exploration, refinement, and launch
Reimagine key moments across the customer journey, including how people discover Instacart, understand value, convert, reactivate, and build ongoing habits
Blend product thinking, brand, content, interaction design, and business mechanics to create unified experiences rather than solving individual surfaces in isolation
Explore and prototype new content models, flows, interaction patterns, motion, and messaging that challenge existing conventions and unlock stronger customer and business outcomes
Design complex, multi-step journeys that span surfaces and teams, identifying opportunities to create greater continuity, clarity, and cohesion across the experience
Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Content Design, Research, Brand, and Data Science to synthesize diverse inputs into clear creative direction and actionable product decisions
Use customer insight, experimentation, and business metrics to evaluate tradeoffs, shape recommendations, and iterate toward measurable impact
Define scalable patterns and interaction models that extend beyond a single feature, improving quality and coherence across the broader Growth experience
Use prototypes, AI-enabled tools, and emerging workflows to make ideas tangible early, accelerate learning, and improve how teams explore and build
Raise the craft bar through exceptional visual and interaction design, strong storytelling, and clear rationale that helps teams align around a shared direction
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
7+ years of experience designing consumer-facing digital products across web and mobile
A portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual, interaction, and product craft, including strong 0→1 work
Deep interaction design skills, with experience in motion, micro-interactions, prototyping, and product behavior
Strong conceptual thinking, with the ability to turn ambiguous opportunities into clear, compelling product experiences
Proven ability to design complex journeys while balancing customer needs, business goals, technical constraints, and craft
Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to articulate design rationale and influence cross-functional partners
Comfortable operating autonomously, exploring broadly, and carrying work from early concept through polished execution
Curiosity and fluency with AI-enabled tools and workflows, using them to accelerate exploration, prototyping, and product development
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in growth, subscriptions, marketplace, commerce, or other high-scale consumer products
Experience working where brand and product experience are deeply connected
Strong prototyping or motion skills using Figma, Framer, ProtoPie, code, or similar
Experience exploring AI-powered product experiences or integrating AI into the design and prototyping process
