What the posting says

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.

The Role

Employee Experience Engineering (EXE) is part of Block's Corporate Engineering organization, responsible for building and operating the engineering platforms, services, and integrations that improve the employee experience. Our work supports the employee journey from hiring and onboarding through ongoing access to corporate services. We develop internal applications, automate employee workflows, and integrate enterprise systems to deliver seamless, reliable, and scalable experiences. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, building reliable systems, and developing thoughtful solutions that make employees' lives easier.

You Will

Develop features and automated workflows that improve the employee experience across hiring, onboarding, and ongoing access to corporate services.

Build and maintain APIs and integrations connecting internal platforms, enterprise applications, and third-party services.

Own software solutions end-to-end, from technical design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing support.

Collaborate with Product, Design, Corporate Engineering, People Technology, Security, and other cross-functional teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.

Provide technical leadership through architecture discussions, code reviews, mentoring, and engineering best practices.

Improve application performance, reliability, observability, and maintainability.

Contribute to technical roadmaps, architectural decisions, and long-term platform improvements.

Explore emerging technologies, including AI-powered capabilities, to improve employee workflows and engineering productivity.

You Have

8+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production applications.

Strong full-stack development experience, including modern frontend and backend technologies.

Experience with React, Ruby on Rails, or comparable frameworks.

Experience designing, developing, and integrating RESTful APIs and backend services.

Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.

Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, data structures, and engineering fundamentals.

Experience with distributed systems, service reliability, and observability.

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production monitoring.

Ability to independently drive complex technical projects and collaborate across engineering teams.

Strong communication skills, customer empathy, and a passion for delivering excellent employee experiences.

Nice to Have

Experience building internal enterprise applications or employee-facing platforms.

Experience integrating HR, identity, access management, or other enterprise systems.

Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS.

Experience with authentication, authorization, and secure API integrations.

Experience automating employee lifecycle workflows, including hiring, onboarding, and access provisioning.

Experience with AI-assisted development or integrating AI capabilities into applications.

Experience improving developer productivity, engineering workflows, or internal platforms.
