Roku is changing how the world watches TV
Roku is the #1 TV streaming platform in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and we've set our sights on powering every television in the world. Roku pioneered streaming to the TV. Our mission is to be the TV streaming platform that connects the entire TV ecosystem. We connect consumers to the content they love, enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and provide advertisers unique capabilities to engage consumers.
From your first day at Roku, you'll make a valuable - and valued - contribution. We're a fast-growing public company where no one is a bystander. We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.
What does the team work on?
Roku's Automation support and Tools team focuses on providing innovative, impactful tools and SW solutions including AI enabled engineering capabilities to help accelerate validation efforts, improve efficiency, enhance productivity of all engineering team across Roku's entire embedded SW org. The team works across full-stack applications, backend services, and scalable platform services to improve developer productivity, end-to-end testing experience of Roku products and services. You will be joining a talented, high-performance team of developers with a strong delivery culture. We are looking for someone who can help us keep up this pace and continue delivering high quality as we grow.
What is the role?
Roku is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Embedded Software Automation and Tools team to build full stack applications and services that support end-to-end automation and test infrastructure. This role involves designing and delivering full stack solutions that support cross-functional internal and external stakeholders across the Roku ecosystem. You will contribute across frontend and backend systems, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and scalability. You will build and evolve APIs and microservices, and help integrate modern AI capabilities into production experiences where they add clear user value. The role requires strong technical judgment, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to move from concept through delivery in a fast-paced environment.
How will I use AI at Roku?
At Roku, we don't just use AI, we work with it. We use AI agents and smart tooling across brainstorming, planning, analysis, and implementation. People set the direction, exercise judgment, and own the outcomes.
We're looking for curious, adaptable builders who can show how they've used AI or automation to move faster, raise the bar, and scale their impact. We value your AI skills if you have built fluency across the agentic engineering toolchain — coding harnesses like Claude Code or Cursor, MCP servers, custom skills, or agentic frameworks — and can describe projects where you shipped real customer-facing work with these tools. You know how to drive an agent, validate its output, and ramp on an unfamiliar codebase with an agent helping you.
What are the responsibilities of the role?
Design and build full stack web applications to support end-to-end automation and test infrastructure
Integrate AI capabilities including LLM-driven experiences in existing and new toolsets
Develop APIs and microservices to support test and quality workflows
Deploy, scale, and monitor services in cloud environments using Kubernetes
Build robust, highly available backend and frontend systems for software quality and automation use cases
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and deliver external partner-facing and internal tooling
Architect and own technical solutions and designs, evaluating design alternatives and trade-offs to deliver pragmatic, scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions
Create and maintain requirement and technical documentation, clearly defining user requirements, expected product behaviour, and relevant technical constraints
Troubleshoot production issues and improve performance and reliability, enabling widespread adoption and use
Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
Mentor less experienced engineers through technical guidance and architectural reviews
What experience would help someone be successful in this role at Roku?
7+ years of proven full stack engineering experience with production web applications and backend services
Strong skills and programming experience in Python
Experience developing web applications using FastAPI, Flask, or Django
Experience with frontend development in TypeScript/JavaScript, Next.js, React, and MUI frameworks
Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Redis, and REST API design and integration
Experience with test-driven development, CI/CD workflows, and continuous integration tools (Jenkins, GitLab)
Experience integrating AI technologies such as Skills, Agents, MCP Servers, or RAG pipelines
Understanding of authentication and authorization approaches including OpenID and SAML
Experience deploying cloud-native services on AWS with containerized infrastructure and Kubernetes
Experience with message queuing systems such as RabbitMQ or Apache Kafka
Demonstrated AI and agentic-tooling fluency per the section above
Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills
A self-directed professional able to work independently
Ability to work through ambiguous requirements and adapt to change
Comfortable working with cross-functional peers and internal stakeholders across European and US timezones
Excellent communication and collaborative skills
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

What should I know about Roku's culture?
Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We're independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.
We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
