What the posting says
Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
ABOUT THE TEAM
Anduril’s Maritime Division is responsible for planning and executing Anduril’s product and revenue roadmap for maritime missions. Working across product, engineering, business development, logistics, and operations, the Maritime team develops, tests, deploys, and sustains the Anduril maritime capabilities in a challenging operational environment worldwide. As a leader in the Maritime Division, you must be a technical leader with the expertise to evaluate, qualify, manage, and advocate for an increasing number of sophisticated parallel pursuits. This role is crucial in ensuring that each initiative aligns with the company’s strategic direction and receives the appropriate resourcing, balancing innovation with practical execution to drive the business line’s success.
ABOUT THE JOB
You will own the Vehicle Management System for a maritime autonomous vehicle. Reporting to the Cognitive Systems Lead, you will design the supervisory software that monitors vehicle health, manages operational modes, responds to faults, and coordinates across all subsystems.
The vehicle runs multi-day missions with no operator link, so the VMS is the only thing deciding whether a degraded vehicle presses on, aborts, or surfaces. Writing that logic means reasoning about failures nobody will be awake to catch.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Own VMS architecture: health monitoring, mode management, fault response
Design vehicle state machines and operational mode transitions
Develop fault detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR) logic
Define VMS interfaces with GN&C, energy, communications, and mission systems
Manage route planning and casualty monitoring functions
Support SITL/HITL testing of VMS behaviors
Interface with all vehicle subsystem leads on integration
Support at-sea testing and validation
Travel up to 25% to test sites
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent
5+ years of experience in vehicle management systems, flight management, or supervisory control software
Experience with real-time embedded software for vehicle platforms
Familiarity with FDIR design and operational mode management
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with AUV, UUV, or UAV management systems
Working knowledge of safety-critical software design patterns
Experience with C++ or Rust for embedded vehicle software
Experience in defense or maritime robotics
