What the posting says

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

The Chassis team provides the foundational infrastructure and tools that enable the Waymo organization to release software frequently and with confidence. You will lead the technical direction and implementation of a city-scale simulation environment that serves as the centerpiece for Waymo's release validation process. As a Senior Staff Tech Lead Engineer, you will architect solutions for large-scale simulated environments, drive the migration to modern testing frameworks, and ensure cross-functional alignment to expand test coverage to include complex systems. You will mentor a team of engineers to deliver a reliable, repeatable, and realistic testing environment that mirrors production and shifts outage detection left.

This Hybrid role reports to our Director of Engineering.

You will:

Help build and evolve mission-critical horizontal infrastructure and tooling that underpins all commercialization systems

Collaborate with other engineering teams to develop systems and processes as business needs grow and evolve

Scale our systems to meet the demands of commercial expansion and growing complexity

Solve hard, real-world problems such as world simulation for regression testing and evaluation of software services managing fleets for autonomous vehicles

You have:

BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience

6+ years of backend or infrastructure experience

5+ years of tech leadership experience

Proven track record of driving strategic alignment and consensus across complex, cross-functional organizations

We prefer:

Experience with C++ (or a willingness to participate in professional development activities to stay current on industry knowledge)

Experience working in environments including nontechnical team members

Experience with operations tooling, developer productivity, or developer tools

Experience with simulation environments

Quality

Completeness: 45%

Not enough history yet to judge honesty signals.
