What the posting says
đ Weâre on a mission to make money work for everyone.
Weâre waving goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking.
After starting as a prepaid card, our product offering has grown a lot in the last 10 years in the UK. As well as personal and business bank accounts, we offer joint accounts, accounts for 16-17 year olds, a free kids account and credit cards in the UK, with more exciting things to come beyond. Our UK customers can also save, invest and combine their pensions with us.
With our hot coral cards and get-paid-early feature, combined with financial education on social media and our award winning customer service, we have a long history of creating magical moments for our customers!
Weâre not about selling products - we want to solve problems and change lives through Monzo â¤ď¸
đLondon or Remote (UK) | đ°ÂŁ68,000 - ÂŁ88,000 + Benefits | 12 month fixed term contract
Every word we write matters. From whatâs in the app, to job ads (like this one), to error messages, to emails, to internal policies, to⌠you get the idea.
The Writing team isnât responsible for writing every word though â weâre here to level up Monzoâs writing overall. We have a well-established tone of voice, and people here really care about making sure all our writing is consistently good and works hard for customers. Itâll be your job to keep that quality up through the writing you do. But youâll also be a champion for great writing by proving the difference it makes, and helping other people to improve their own writing skills.
Our never-ending reason to exist is to improve the overall quality of writing at Monzo. That means a culture where care for language is the norm. Everyone, in every role, should understand how important it is to write in a clear, empathetic way, and they should all have the skills to do it. The outcome of that will be world-leading writing for customers. Theyâll trust us because our writing is clear, effective and works hard for them.
Youâll get together with the other writers pretty regularly to review and showcase work, collect feedback and insights from one another and generally just raise the bar for words at Monzo. And as we hinted at already, youâll live and breathe our tone of voice, which is propped up by 3 guiding principles: straightforward kindness, everyday magic and warm wit.
Youâll be covering our Borrowing Writer while theyâre on caregiver leave
This is a 12-month fixed term contract covering for our Writer whoâs based in the Borrowing collective. That means youâll be focused on supporting teams working on things like loans, credit cards, overdrafts and other borrowing and credit related projects.
Youâll work closely with cross-functional squads of engineers, designers, marketers, researchers and so on to make it an amazing experience for existing customers, and bring new people on board.
A typical day could see you
collaborating with a Product Designer on some in-app screens
collaborating with a Product Marketer on positioning and building messaging toolkits for use across web, growth marketing or CRM
sitting in on user research sessions led by the Research team
writing error messages with input from engineers
editing legal wording alongside our in-house lawyers
Your home will be in Writing
Alongside the work you do in Borrowing, youâll contribute to the Writing discipline. Weâre always working on new resources, training and processes to make writing easier for everyone at Monzo.
Writing is part of the wider Marketing team but this role isnât only about marketing. In fact, thatâs a small part of the job. Your remit will be to improve the quality of the writing that touches your part of the business, inside Monzo and out.
This is for you if
you understand borrowing and credit products well
youâre a dab hand at âcontent designâ, âUX writingâ, âproduct writingâ
youâre allergic to useless jargon and over-complicated language
you know how to use data and research to guide your approach
youâre okay bouncing between tasks on a daily basis
youâre comfortable questioning a brief and helping people understand why your approach is the right one
youâve done some training or coaching to help other people improve their writing, but this oneâs not essential.
This isnât for you if
itâs your first writing job â sorry, but we need someone to hit the ground running
youâre a journalist or ad writer
youâre only really excited by brand and marketing stuff â that isnât the focus of this role
you prefer to spend most of your time working solo â writing here is a team sport and youâll need to collaborate with everyone across the company
you like lots of top-down direction â youâll be expected to decide which challenges you tackle with your team, and how to tackle them.
Youâll get
the chance to shape the role around whatâs good for you, and us
very flexible working â we care about what you do, not the minutes you work or where you do it (we love to see our teammates in the office but you donât have to come in if you donât want to)
a whole load of benefits, including a personal training budget, health insurance, generous caregiving leave and more you can read about here: https://monzo.com/careers/
Please make sure you give us both a CV and a cover letter. This is a writing job after all; you should want to show us what you can do. A cover letter also helps us understand why you want the job vs a CV which often just tells us why you might be able to do the job.
The Interview Process
Our interview process involves 3 main stages (not including a recruiter call).
Initial call with the Hiring Manager (30mins)
Take home task (to be submitted within 7 days)
A pair of interviews via Google Meet (each interview lasting up to 60 minutes)
This process should take around 3-4 weeks - your schedule is really important to us, so we promise to be as flexible as possible!
We have some guidelines on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to ace an application and interview at Monzo. You can read them here.
Youâll hear from us throughout the application process, but if youâve got any questions, please reach out to [email protected]. You can also use this email address to let us know if thereâs anything we can do to make the process easier for you because of disability, neurodiversity or anything else.
Whatâs in it for you:
ÂŁ68,000 - ÂŁ88,800 as a base salary
This role will be based out of our London office next to Liverpool Street station in a hybrid approach of office based and home working, or remotely within the UK
We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, at times that suit you and your team.
Learning budget of ÂŁ1,000 a year for books, training courses and conferences
And much more, see our full list of benefits here
Weâll only close this role once we have enough applications for the next stage. Please submit your application as soon as possible to make sure you donât miss out.
