What the posting says
For over 20 years, Smartsheet has empowered teams to manage work seamlessly and scale solutions smarter. Now, in our most ambitious chapter yet, we are uniting human teams with AI agents. By orchestrating the work agents do best, automating manual tasks and uncovering insights at scale, we create the space for people to focus on what truly matters: judgment, creativity, and big thinking. That is magic at work, and it’s what we show up for every day.
Smartsheet is a tech company with a human story to tell. We’re here to empower teams to manage projects, automate workflows, and rapidly build new secure solutions, using simple no-code tools. We’re revolutionaries – so for us changing the way the world works is all in a day’s work.
Smartsheet is looking for a Solutions Architect to drive quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction within our Professional Services’ business by leading customer conversations and assisting customers with developing, building, testing and deploying solutions that leverage Smartsheet, the Smartsheet API and integrations between Smartsheet and other products. The right candidate will have a passion for working with leading edge, web-based, and AI-powered technologies and a desire to deeply understand Smartsheet’s benefits, use cases, and business and technical elements.
As a Solutions Architect, you will work with Smartsheet customers and partners on engagements to convert business requirements into Smartsheet solutions. Within this role, you will be considered the Subject Matter Expert pertaining to advanced Smartsheet functionalities in order to propose solutions for use cases across different industries and business groups. The right candidate is a strong communicator, detail-oriented, and is motivated by both working independently and leading impactful customer conversations.
You will report to the Director, Solution Architect. This is a remote eligible position and you may work remotely from anywhere in the US where Smartsheet is registered.
You Will:
Develop, build, test and deploy custom software solutions leveraging a wide array of Smartsheet product & third party APIs
Design and build AI-powered workflows and automations — leveraging LLMs, AI agents, and Smartsheet’s native AI capabilities — to solve customer problems that traditional configuration can’t
Leverage AI coding assistants such as Claude Code to accelerate custom development, prototyping, and solution delivery across customer engagements
Evaluate emerging AI tools and techniques and apply them to accelerate time-to-value for customers
Lead technical consulting engagements that require custom software development by leading design sessions, defining technical requirements, and validating solution architecture against product best practices
Design and document technical solutions aligned with client business objectives
Partner directly with customer teams throughout an engagement, embedding deeply enough in their workflows to translate real-world pain points into working solutions quickly
Rapidly prototype and iterate on solutions in close collaboration with customers, refining scope and design based on hands-on feedback rather than waiting for formal review cycles
Own solutions end-to-end — from initial discovery through deployment, adoption, and ongoing refinement in production
Build reusable components, frameworks, and accelerators that can be extended and redeployed across future customer engagements
Serve as the Smartsheet subject matter expert (SME) on Smartsheet product capabilities and AI-powered extensibility scenarios that leverage the API
Manage all aspects of technical projects, including, but not limited to, the schedule, deliverables, deadlines and client relationships
Drive the technical delivery of custom development, integrations, and data migration elements of a Smartsheet implementation
Maintain a target billable utilization aligned to the role
Provide feedback to our Product & Platform Engineering teams that inform product improvements and identify feature gaps
Other duties as assigned
You Have:
3 years relevant work experience or equivalent combination of relevant work experience and education
Working experience with two or more of our primary languages (.Net, NodeJS, Python, Java, Ruby)
Full-stack development skills, with the ability to independently design, build, and ship production-quality applications — not just configure existing tools
Familiarity with AI/LLM technologies and experience integrating them into applications via APIs
Working knowledge of prompt engineering and AI agent design patterns, with curiosity for applying AI to solve real business problems
Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, with comfort integrating them into a daily engineering workflow
Willing to travel periodically (up to 15%) based on customer and business need
Strong communication skills (written, verbal, presentation), with the ability to explain technical subjects to non-technical end user personnel in large enterprises
Proven ability to drive projects from concept through completion with minimal guidance
Customer facing experience
Comfort operating with high autonomy in ambiguous, fast-changing environments where requirements evolve in real time
A strong bias toward ownership — treating customer problems as your own and staying engaged through to a successful outcome
Experience rapidly prototyping and iterating on solutions based on direct, hands-on customer feedback
Experience working with SaaS/IPaaS applications in an enterprise environment
Understanding of systems architecture and ability to design scalable performance-driven solutions
Understanding of key design patterns and large data volume best practices
Knowledge of data integration and experience integrating SaaS applications with different business systems (ETL, CRM, business analytics, reporting, etc.)
Bachelors in MIS, CIS, CS preferred but not required
