What the posting says

Atlas is at the heart of our AI-ready data foundation. Atlas is a best-in-class, fully managed, multi-cloud database service that simplifies the complexities of deploying and managing highly available database deployments across multiple regions and cloud providers. Atlas offers vertically and horizontally scalability, built-in automation for optimizing workloads and resources, advanced observability and security features, and unmatched data distribution with over 125 regions available globally across AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure.

This team is at the forefront of innovation, having brought to life some of the most exciting features we've launched in the past, such as multi-cloud databases, predictive autoscaling, and next-generation hardware support on AWS. Furthermore, this team will continue to play a critical role as the platform expands to where developers need it most.

The Role

MongoDB's Atlas Product Management team is seeking a Staff Product Manager to own key cross-domain initiatives within Atlas Clusters. In this role, you will be a key member of the Atlas Clusters product management team, helping make the core Atlas platform a market differentiator that enables MongoDB to win in enterprise and at scale.

You will lead product strategy and execution for capabilities and programs that support enterprise platform requirements and broader large-scale customer needs. You will work across Engineering, Design, Support, Security, and Go-to-Market teams to translate complex technical and customer requirements into clear product investments, roadmaps, and outcomes.

This role is suited for a candidate who can orchestrate multiple interlinked product areas, own cross-team product and architectural trade-offs, and align senior stakeholders around multi-year bets. You will be expected to identify opportunities and dependencies that cut across team boundaries, bring clarity to ambiguous problem spaces, and establish reusable ways of working that help MongoDB deliver reliable, scalable platform capabilities for enterprise and other demanding markets.

You will partner closely with senior engineering and business leaders to evaluate trade-offs, sequence investments, and bring clarity to decisions that balance customer impact, execution risk, and long-term business value.

Responsibilities

Atlas Clusters Product Strategy

Own key cross-domain initiatives on the Atlas Clusters roadmap, translating requirements e.g., enterprise platform blockers, multi-cloud architecture, and resilience programs into clear product priorities

Define goals and milestones for major platform programs, including platform resiliency, and drive accountability across teams

Lead gap assessments and scope customer-driven engineering work

Cross-Functional Program Leadership

Drive complex, multi-team programs by setting governance, success metrics, and operating cadence across teams

Partner with Engineering and SRE on architecture interpretation, implementation decisions, and launch readiness

Embed reliability- and scale-first workflows into product development and delivery

Market Expansion and Enterprise go-to-market (GTM)

Lead product strategy for growing Atlas, partnering with GTM to bring new platform capabilities to market and drive adoption

Evaluate control plane and infrastructure options, assess engineering trade-offs, and align teams on expansion requirements

Partner with Finance, Engineering, and GTM on pricing, packaging, and launch decisions

Customer-Driven Product Development

Build strong feedback loops with Customer Engineering, Solutions Architects, Support, and GTM to ensure roadmap priorities reflect field needs

Translate customer escalations, support trends, and market gaps into a prioritized Atlas Clusters roadmap

Serve as an internal expert on emerging infrastructure and platform trends that shape product direction

Stakeholder Alignment and Executive Communication

Align Engineering, Design, Product Marketing, and GTM around product strategy and execution

Define KPIs and success metrics for Atlas Clusters investments

Represent MongoDB with customers and prospects as a subject matter expert on Atlas architecture and large-scale cloud database deployments

Requirements

10+ years of product management experience on technically complex, infrastructure-level products. Database, distributed systems, or cloud infrastructure experience is a plus but not required. We care about your ability to ramp fast on hard technical domains and make sound product decisions once you do

Demonstrated success owning enterprise-grade, technical products end-to-end — not just shipping them, but delivering measurable customer and business outcomes you can quantify

Technical fluency: comfortable discussing architecture, failure modes, performance characteristics, and tradeoffs with Staff and Distinguished engineers, and connecting technical decisions directly to customer outcomes. You do need to be the kind of PM who will understand key areas deeply within your first month and have an opinion about how it affects the customer experience by month two

Track record of taking products from 0 to 1 and from 1 to 50 — building something new and scaling what works

Hands-on experience with databases, distributed systems, or cloud infrastructure platforms (compute, storage, networking, capacity planning). MongoDB experience is a plus

Ability to write, promote, and execute business cases. The ability to drive complex projects across multiple teams and deliver results

Strong customer-orientation and field-connection, regularly engaging directly with customers and field teams and translating their input into clear requirements and roadmap decisions

Excellent written and verbal communication: crisp, high-quality artifacts and the ability to tailor the message by audience (engineering, executives, customers, field). In this role you will represent product direction to enterprise CTOs and to senior engineering leaders who may disagree with your priorities. You need to hold the room

Strong analytical skills and metrics rigor, including defining success metrics, instrumenting and debugging analytics, and using data to inform (but not replace) judgment

Demonstrated decision-making speed and conviction under ambiguity, with specific examples of making hard calls, cutting scope, and holding a position under pushback. We will ask you about this in the interview, and we will push back on your answer

Desire to be a part of the Go-to-Market, Marketing, and Sales enablement process

Nice to Have

Experience with Cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, and GCP

Community support and participation to advance cloud database and infrastructure technology such as conference or meetup panels and blog or paper authorship

Proficiency in managing large scale software rollouts, especially in ways to automate and cohort rollouts to prioritize different environments and customers

Experience collaborating with customers in highly regulated industries, understanding the unique challenges and requirements they face

MBA, M.Sc. or Ph.D. in relevant domains
