About Us:

CompassX is a boutique business and technology consulting firm. We help Fortune 500 and high-growth clients deliver their most strategic initiatives, from enterprise transformations to digital and data-driven projects.

With over 15 years of proven results, we’ve expanded across industries including financial services, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, consumer products, and quick service restaurants.

We are honored to be recognized as a three-time winner of Consulting Magazine’s Best Boutique Firms to Work For, and previously recognized as a “Best Place to Work” in Southern California and one of INC.’s 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S.

About The Role:

We are seeking a Test Engineer to support our Quick Service Restaurant industry client practice for a high-impact, 6-month contract engagement. In this role, you will be embedded directly within the client's ecosystem, driving quality assurance and building automated validation frameworks for cross-service applications.

Operating on CST hours in a remote setup, you will not just execute scripts, you will take complete ownership of functional use cases, testing modern architectures built on GraphQL, Playwright, and real-time Pub/Sub (MQTT) systems. This role is ideal for a testing expert who has genuinely worked hands-on with these technologies

What You'll Do:

Design, test, and maintain automated tests for services

Lead efforts in drafting test scenarios and writing tests to cover functional use cases for each feature, including asynchronous/event-driven flows and GraphQL API contracts

Collaborate with teams across Yum services to triage bugs and investigate failures in various environments

Monitor and maintain test pipelines, and use observability tools and test logs to identify and fix failures

Clearly communicate bugs and proactively initiate discussions to aid issue discovery and resolution

Leverage cutting-edge AI tools to enhance the development workflow and improve delivery velocity

What You'll Bring:

Solid proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript; experience with test runners such as Mocha

Hands-on experience with UI test automation frameworks, including Playwright

Demonstrable, hands-on experience testing event-driven / Pub-Sub systems (e.g., MQTT, WebSockets, SSE) including designing tests around message ordering, delivery guarantees (at-least-once/at-most-once), reconnection/retry logic, and asynchronous event assertions.

Deep, hands-on experience testing GraphQL APIs: Writing and maintaining tests for complex nested queries, mutations, and subscriptions; mocking schemas/resolvers; handling pagination, error responses, and N+1 query issues.

Working knowledge of cloud environments and containerized deployments, including Docker images and container registries

Working knowledge of Git and Git-based workflows, including CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins)

Experience analyzing and correlating application and service logs across multiple services (e.g., tracing errors, debugging test failures)

Experience using Jira (or similar tools) for task and issue tracking

Familiarity with Android test automation using frameworks such as Appium
